Having a child who has an Individualized Education Plan or a 504 Plan can be confusing, frustrating, and even scary, which is why parents and caregivers must be actively involved in their child's education. Parents and caregivers are a child's greatest advocates and often notice signs of academic challenges before a school does. Let Lean on Me Advocacy assist you in this process.

The Law is here to protect your child. You must know your rights by consulting an advocate or a lawyer. They will help guide you on the next steps. As your advocate, my job is to educate you on your child's rights within the school district. Please get in touch with me for further information.
You can start by dating and signing a letter to the school district explaining your concerns. The school district has 10 days to respond to you.
In special education, a free and appropriate education (FAPE) means that the school district is responsible by law to educate your child because you pay taxes for where you live. A formal medical diagnosis is not necessary in order for your child to receive FAPE. However a diagnosis may help you explain your child's strengths and challenges and should be considered by the school district.
